At a glance. An automated application sends a daily schedule-and-weather text to two adult recipients who consented in advance. Approximately one message per day, plus occasional automated alerts; message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.
Tom Folsom's Household Automation is a private, non-commercial scheduling and notification application built and operated by Tom Folsom. It runs on a fixed daily schedule with no human involvement in composing or sending any message: the application queries the Google Calendar API, the TickTick task API, and the National Weather Service API, assembles the results into a formatted summary, and delivers that summary by SMS to its registered recipients. It also sends automated alerts when conditions it monitors are met, such as a severe weather notice or an approaching deadline.
All messages are transactional system notifications. This application sends no marketing, promotional, or advertising content of any kind.
Messages go only to two adults, both of whom gave express prior consent and whose numbers were entered directly into the application's private configuration by the operator. There is no public signup: no web form and no way for a member of the public to join. Numbers are never purchased, rented, or obtained from any list or third party.
Initial consent cannot be given by text message, and this application supports no keyword-based or self-service enrollment. A number is added only after the verbal consent process described below.
Consent is obtained verbally and in person by the operator, who reads the following disclosure aloud and records the recipient's affirmative response along with the date:
"I've built an automated system that sends a daily text with our calendar, our to-do list, and the weather forecast. It's operated by me, Tom Folsom, and the messages come from my number ending in [last four digits].
It sends approximately one message per day, plus occasional automated alerts; message frequency may vary. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply. You can stop the messages at any time by replying STOP, or by telling me and I'll remove your number.
Do I have your permission to add your mobile number to receive these text messages?"
Consent is recorded only after an unambiguous yes. A recipient who declines is not added, and no message is sent to any number that has not gone through this process.
Approximately one message per day, plus occasional automated alerts; message frequency may vary. The daily message is generally sent in the morning.
The operator does not charge for these messages. However, message and data rates may apply depending on the recipient's mobile plan. Any such charges are between the recipient and their mobile carrier.
Reply STOP to any message from this program to cancel. A single confirmation message will be sent acknowledging the request, after which no further messages will be sent to that number.
A recipient who opts out and later wishes to resume can ask the operator directly to be re-added.
Reply HELP to any message from this program to receive contact information. Help is also available by email at [email protected].
Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is dependent on carrier networks and is not guaranteed. Recipients should not rely on this program for time-critical or emergency information.
Messages are supported on major U.S. carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, Boost, MetroPCS, and Virgin Mobile, as well as many smaller and reseller carriers. Carrier support may change without notice.
Information handling is described in full in the Privacy Policy, which is the single authoritative privacy policy for this application.
No mobile information, including mobile phone numbers and messaging opt-in data or consent, is shared, sold, or provided to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Mobile phone numbers are used solely to provide the messaging service described above. Mobile information may be disclosed to service providers, including Twilio and mobile carriers, only as necessary to transmit and deliver messages. Such service providers do not receive mobile information for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
These terms may be updated. Any revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
